Blue Series by Comme des Garcons Parfums
There is something about the Comme des Garcons Parfums that despite their variety of ingredient, packaging and theme bears an undercurrent of strategic fragrance construction that even a more untrained nose can recognise.
They favour incense based scent, this much is true, but the fact remains that each CDG scent is as disparate as they are idiosyncratic, so much so that they are able to group them into smaller series of kindred scents, all following a theme or bearing a familiar hallmark.
A good example of this is the now iconic Incense Series 3 featuring two of the most instantly distinctive scents of the CDG Parfum range, namely Avignon and Kyoto. Today Comme des Garcons have again announced a new paradoxical series of scents, called the Blue Series:
A clash of luxurious warmth and searing coolness. Fresh, non-fresh. Cool yet warm.
Strange though as it may sound, Comme des Garcons Parfums have managed to combine contradictory cool and warm tones in these scents – although that said the colour and name of the range gives away which side ‘wins’. The resulting scents are an unexpected blend of wood, spice and incense artfully combined to reveal refreshingly warm layers.
Now all that is left for us to do is embrace the contradiction.
The Comme des Garcons Blue Series (Eau de Parfum 100ml natural sprays – £75.00) are available exclusively from Selfridges 6th June.
